The Education Specialist in School Psychology at Âé¶¹Ô­´´ prepares you to become a certified school psychologist who supports the academic, social and emotional success of children and adolescents in today’s schools. You’ll gain the knowledge and hands-on experience needed to assess learning and behavioral needs, collaborate with educators and families, and design evidence-based interventions that help students thrive.

 Through a strong foundation in psychological science, you’ll study human development, learning and motivation while building advanced skills in psychoeducational assessment, counseling, consultation and intervention. You’ll be prepared to promote positive school climates, advance student wellness and prevention efforts, respond to crises, and support student safety.

 From the start, you’ll apply what you’re learning through supervised practica and real-world experiences in school settings. As you progress, you’ll complete a full-time, two-semester internship in public schools, giving you the opportunity to work directly with students and school-based teams while preparing for professional practice. The curriculum is intentionally structured to meet Florida certification requirements and help you enter the field career ready. 

Graduates of the School Psychology EdS are equipped to work in a variety of educational and related settings, including public and private schools and other child-focused organizations.

Course Overview

Building and Improving Relationship and Emotional Intelligence

Develop and improve relational and emotional intelligence to support student social emotional learning overall psychosocial well-being.

Learn principles and procedures of applied behavioral and observational analysis and assessment as they relate to changing behavior in schools.

Gain a strong foundation in evaluating students’ academic achievement and cognitive functioning. You’ll learn to administer, score and interpret psychoeducational assessments commonly used by school psychologists to inform instructional and intervention decisions.
