Letterpress is the process of printing from an inked raised surface when paper is impressed directly on the surface, and is the technique used by Flying Horse Editions research and publishing facility.

The Winter Solstice Letterpress Happy Hour will be 6-8 p.m. at 500 W. Livingston St., Orlando.

For a $10 donation, visitors can make five personalized cards with a message up to four inches long. Also included are envelopes and a choice of one beer or a glass of wine.

Give them a handmade card – made on a fine-arts letterpress at ±«°äąó’s Flying Horse Editions.

The opportunity to create the cards will be offered during the facility’s periodic open house on Thursday, Feb. 7, when visitors can see the downtown Orlando fine-art research center and some of the limited-edition prints, artist books, and art objects by internationally known artists that have been printed by the non-profit publisher.

Flying Horse staffers also will demonstrate the letterpress process, which prints an image from an inked, raised surface when paper is impressed on the surface.

The Letterpress Happy Hour—Valentine’s Day Edition is free. Those who want to make the customized cards can print five cards for $10. The cards can have up to 25 characters printed on a preset Valentine’s design.

The open house is 6 to 9 p.m. at the Âé¶ąÔ­´´ Center for Emerging Media, 500 W. Livingston St. Refreshments will be available and food trucks are scheduled to attend.

The Letterpress Happy Hour will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 22, at the Âé¶ąÔ­´´ Center for Emerging Media, 500 W. Livingston St. in downtown Orlando.

Event attendees will learn more about letterpress printing and will have the opportunity to create custom holiday cards.

The open house is free, but with a $10 donation attendees will receive five custom printed cards and a beverage. All donations from the event will go toward operating the press.

Founded in 1990, Flying Horse Editions is a nonprofit publisher of limited-edition prints, books and art objects by internationally renowned artists. Flying Horse Editions heightens the education of Âé¶ąÔ­´´ students by giving them a change to improve printing and design skills.

“Impressions Orlando” will offer the public a chance to peruse and buy high-quality, limited-edition works by emerging and established artists from New York City and elsewhere.

The fair will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, at ±«°äąó’s Center for Emerging Media in downtown Orlando – the home of ±«°äąó’s fine arts press, Flying Horse Editions. Flying Horse Editions is a nonprofit publisher of limited-edition prints, books and art objects by internationally renowned artists.

Lectures and demonstrations about fine arts printing also will be scheduled during the weekend fair.

“It will be a unique opportunity to learn about contemporary art and for collectors to purchase pieces at affordable prices,” said Theo Lotz, Flying Horse’s studio director.

Print publishers scheduled to attend are: Forth Estate, One Eye Pug, David Krut Press, Michael Steinberg Editions, Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop and Flying Horse Editions.

“Impressions Orlando” will be hosted in partnership with the Orlando Museum of Art’s Acquisition Trust – the museum’s contemporary collecting arm, which has been purchasing works for the permanent collection for more than 25 years.

The fair will be free and open to the public. ±«°äąó’s Center for Emerging Media is located at 500 W. Livingston St. in downtown Orlando.
