Showcasing one鈥檚 research is an important milestone in the graduate academic experience. With various opportunities to engage in conferences, impactful symposiums, and competitions, 麻豆原创 graduate students have many options to share their work with the broader community.

The 麻豆原创 (GSC) now offers affordable poster printing, making participation in such events more accessible for graduate students and faculty. Located on the second floor of Trevor Colbourn Hall, suite 213, the GSC is home to a variety of resources available to graduate students at little to no cost. In addition to complimentary events and workshops throughout the year, students are welcome to reserve the conference room, access computers, seek advice from our graduate ambassadors and simply hang out with friends. The center is open every weekday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., with extended hours on select days. It鈥檚 a central location for all things graduate.

The large-scale poster printer is available to graduate students and faculty at just $25. The powerful printer can produce vibrant, large-scale color posters, helping students and faculty create official presentations and share their work. The goal is to make preparing professional-level materials easier and more accessible to support graduate students in their academic endeavors.

“As a valuable resource, it provides a practical boost for anyone aiming to enhance the visual appeal of their academic presentations, offering support for a more impactful and engaging presentation experience,鈥 says Tyler Campbell, assistant director for graduate student life.

Guidelines and requirements for utilizing the poster printing service are outlined on the to ensure a smooth and timely printing process. Posters must be intended for academic or educational purposes, feature current 麻豆原创 logos, and be submitted as a PDF or JPEG. After submission, your poster will be reviewed within 48 hours and ready for pickup within five business days.

Payments are processed using Knights Cash through your 麻豆原创 ID card and completed in person during poster pick-up. To begin, fill out the through the GSC website.

The poster printer will be a valuable tool for students in preparing for exhibition-style events. One exciting upcoming opportunity for graduate students to showcase their work is during 麻豆原创鈥檚 annual , which is March 25-29 this year. This event attracts hundreds of students showcasing their research in poster format at the Student Scholar Symposium.

Navigating Campus

Home to over 68,000 students, 麻豆原创 is a sprawling institution with various campuses around central Florida, including 麻豆原创 Downtown, Rosen College of Hospitality Management, and the Health Sciences Campus at Lake Nona. Our main campus located in Orlando spans about 1,420 acres organized in concentric rings designed to simplify your navigation.

Various modes of transportation are available to assist you in getting around the campus, along with additional choices for reaching other university locations.

Too hot to ride a Spin Scooter? You can opt for the Pegasus Express shuttles, which provide convenient transportation around the university. They run 7 a.m.鈥7 p.m. Monday through Friday, during fall and spring semesters, excluding holidays. Students can also access Lynx bus routes for free with a valid 麻豆原创 ID, take a shuttle to downtown, Rosen College, or Lake Nona, and even get transportation to the local grocery store.

Located on the first floor of the across from College Optical, 麻豆原创鈥檚 bike shop provides free bike repair services for students, including tire inflation, brake adjustments, fixing loose handlebars, and gear adjustments. Bike N鈥 Gold, 麻豆原创’s bike share program hosted by the Student Government, also offers free long-term bike rentals for periods of up to one semester.

Resources

麻豆原创 strives to make graduate students鈥 lives easier by providing resources to support them during their studies. The聽聽(GSC) is a designated space for graduate students on our main campus in Trevor Colbourn Hall, Suite 213. The GSC provides complimentary and reservable study spaces, private conference rooms, and presentation rooms. Additionally, they organize cost-free events and workshops throughout the academic year to foster community among graduate students. Starting this semester, the center will also offer poster printing for students.

Though the prospect of diving into your thesis or dissertation might initially seem intimidating, rest assured that a range of support services is in place to accompany you on your academic journey. The Office of Graduate Student Life (GSL) coordinates the format review and final submission process for (ETDs), establishes deadlines for thesis and dissertation submissions, oversees policies related to these projects, and offers assistance to students, faculty, and staff. Beginning this semester, a dedicated graduate assistant will be available to help you format your work.

The John C. Hitt Library offers many resources and tools for graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. You can schedule consultations with the subject librarian, attend graduate and postdoc workshops, find information about scholarly publishing, and view archival theses and dissertations in the STARS Repository. You can access the library鈥檚 services for graduate students and postdocs at .

The library is open seven days a week: Monday through Thursday 7:30 a.m.鈥1 a.m., Friday 7:30 a.m.鈥7 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.鈥6 p.m. and Sunday noon鈥1 a.m. Starting this semester, they will also offer hours Sunday through Thursday 1 a.m.鈥 6 a.m. Please note that a 麻豆原创 ID card is required for entry during these hours and only allows access to a portion of the second floor. No library services or printing are available during this time, but there are computers, restrooms and water fountains.

Events and Opportunities

provides a variety of services to support graduate students throughout their time at 麻豆原创 and help prepare them for what comes after graduation. They also organize events and social gatherings for graduate students throughout the year, including their monthly First Wednesday Caf茅, where students can enjoy free bagels and coffee while learning about university resources available to graduate students.

Next week, they are hosting the Fall Semester Launch beginning Aug. 21 with many social and professional development events offered 鈥 from Donuts with the Deans to a funding workshop. Building your community is an integral part of having a fulfilling graduate experience. Whether you want to get involved on campus or seek opportunities to network and make friends, 麻豆原创 offers a range of registered student organizations (RSOs) tailored for graduate students. Support Services

The (UWC) is another valuable resource that offers free individual and small-group writing consultations to 麻豆原创 community members. Their purpose is not to 鈥渇ix鈥 papers. Instead, the UWC provides a collaborative environment that creates opportunities to support writers鈥 learning to help them to better understand and navigate complex situations for writing, both in and outside the university. Their tutors are qualified 麻豆原创 graduate and undergraduate students dedicated to helping you produce your best writing.

Though graduate school may be stressful at times, taking care of your mental health is always a priority.聽 provides an assortment of workshops, group counseling, and one-on-one counseling services to all 麻豆原创 students. They also offer a selection of virtual services and self-help resources. In addition, the College of Graduate Studies offers a webcourse called designed to help graduate students be more proactive with their mental wellness.

Prioritizing your physical health is equally important, and engaging in regular exercise can help alleviate stress and improve your mood. The (RWC) comprises many programs, such as intramural Sports, Sports Clubs, Outdoor Adventure, Fitness, and Aquatics. The RWC also includes various facilities such as our state-of-the-art fitness center, the Climbing Tower, tennis courts, sand volleyball courts, and Lake Claire Recreation Area. There is also a satellite fitness center on the downtown campus. The RWC is open to all currently enrolled students and offers many services aimed at helping 麻豆原创 students be healthy knights.

There are many sources of financial support for graduate students at 麻豆原创, from fellowships and assistantships to tuition remission and health insurance. 麻豆原创 has its own police department contributing to a secure campus environment. The currently employs approximately 80 sworn law enforcement officers between the main and the three regional campuses in Orlando. They provide many services, including safe escorts, notary services, bike and property registrations, and self-defense workshops.

A Space for Graduate Students to Call 鈥楬ome鈥 /news/a-space-for-graduate-students-to-call-home/ Wed, 10 Oct 2012 17:58:04 +0000 /news/?p=41812 On Wednesday, October 3, 2012, the Graduate Student Center held an all-day open house and invited the graduate community to stop by and tour the space located in Colbourn Hall, Suite 146.

Visitors heard from special guest speakers during a mid-afternoon reception of refreshments and mingling. Speakers included 麻豆原创 President Dr. John C. Hitt, Interim Vice Provost and College of Graduate Studies Dean Dr. Ross Hinkle, Provost and Executive Vice President Dr. Tony Waldrop, and Graduate Student Association (GSA) President Matt Bagwell.

Speakers stressed the significance of graduate students鈥 contributions to the university, and highlighted the various technologies available for graduate students within the Graduate Student Center.

GSA officers Elizabeth Sanz聽(Vice President), Karim Alizad (Treasurer), and Rahmatollah Beheshti (Secretary), as well as Student Government Association President Cortez Whatley also dropped in to commemorate the occasion.

Though the Graduate Student Center has been open since the fall semester began, Wednesday was the official celebration, announcing to the entire 麻豆原创 community that the Center was open.

The Center provides a comfortable, multiuse, high-tech haven for graduate students to study and collaborate. The space was designed by graduate students, with the graduate community鈥檚 needs in mind.

Centrally located in Suite 146 of Colbourn Hall, the Graduate Student Center is minutes from the Student Union, Bookstore, Library, and Millican Hall services, and just down the hall from the University Writing Center.

The Graduate Student Center contains four main areas:

  • Multipurpose Study Area– furnished with inviting couches, a 65鈥 LCD presentation screen, and offers wireless access and numerous laptop outlets. This area is suitable for small study groups and group collaboration, individual study, and any reception gathering.
  • Presentation Room- features ultra-ergonomic desks, digital video recording capabilities, projection screen, Blu-Ray player, document viewer, teaching podium, and seating for 38. This room is recommended for professional or academic workshops and seminars, practice presentations, and thesis and dissertation defenses.
  • Conference Room- houses video conferencing equipment, a 65鈥 LCD screen, two document readers, ceiling-mounted microphone, and a conference table with seating for 14. It is perfect for long distance meetings and presentations, visual collaboration, or just a private room for group discussions.
  • Study and Data Analysis Rooms- contain 12 quiet computer workstations, printers, and specialized software to support graduate students鈥 research. The computers are outfitted with statistical analyses software, publication-quality graphing software, programming and numerical computation software, and many others.
  • The rooms and computers are available for any graduate student to reserve.

    The week will feature forums, workshops and activities geared toward graduate students. Activities will focus on research, international perspectives and making connections with other students and careers.

    Event highlights include the Graduate Research Forum from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Pegasus Ballroom of the Student Union and the Knights in Paradise Luau Party from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Leisure Pool near the Recreation & Wellness Center.
