Wide receiver Brandon Marshall (Chicago) had 12 catches for 92 yards in the Bears’ 28-10 win over Minnesota. Marshall has 1,017 receiving yards in his first season with the Bears, making him their first 1,000-yard receiver since 2002 (Marty Booker, 1,189 receiving yards). He is only the fifth player in NFL history (Irving Fryer, Tony Martin, Randy Moss, Terrell Owens) to record a 1,000-yard receiving season with three different teams; Chicago, Denver and Miami.

Fullback Bruce Miller (San Francisco) had 3 receptions for 37 yards in the 49ers’ 31-21 win over the Saints on Sunday. Look for him to be active again this week against the Rams as he continues to get touches in the 49ers offense while leading the way for running back Frank Gore.

Cornerback Asante Samuel (Atlanta) had 2 passes defended in the Falcons’ close 24-23 win over the Bucs on Sunday and nearly added to his gaudy career-interception total.

Cornerback Josh Robinson (Minnesota) is averaging 3.5 tackles per-game in his first season in the NFL, while kicker Matt Prater (Denver) hit a 34-yard field goal and was 2-for-2 on extra points in the Broncos’ 17-9 win over the Chiefs on Sunday.

Tackle Jah Reid (Baltimore) made his second-career start this week in the Ravens’ overtime win against the Chargers after missing the first seven weeks of the season with a calf injury.

It was also a milestone day for wide receiver Jamar Newsome. The former Knight was signed from the practice squad on Nov. 24 and made his Kansas City debut with his first-career NFL catch for 10 yards against the Broncos.

In the Canadian Football League, cornerback Joe Burnett was named to the CFL West Division All-Star team along with five of his fellow teammates.

麻豆原创 Knights Open NFL 2011 Season /news/ucf-knights-open-nfl-2011-season/ Fri, 16 Sep 2011 20:30:55 +0000 /news/?p=27497 The Knights lead all Conference USA programs with 12 players on NFL rosters, while East Carolina, Houston and Marshall are second with eight.

In all, C-USA has 74 players from its 12 institutions with NFL teams this season.

Safety Atari Bigby (2001-04) has joined the Seattle Seahawks this year after spending six years with the defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers. Still a member of the Packers, Josh Sitton (2004-07) has started every game on the offensive line since 2009, and was the NFL Offensive Lineman of the Year last season.

Sitton鈥檚 麻豆原创 teammate on the O-line, Patrick Brown (2005-08), appeared in his first regular-season game last weekend when he took the field for the Minnesota Vikings at San Diego. And fellow offensive lineman Jah Reid (2007-10) learned from both Sitton and Brown during his 麻豆原创 career, and now stars for Baltimore after being selected by the Ravens in the 2011 NFL Draft.

Also on the offensive side of the ball, Brandon Marshall (2002-05) continues to serve as one of the top playmakers in the league. The wideout pulled in seven catches for 139 yards for the Miami Dolphins against the New England Patriots, and he has 420 receptions in his NFL career. Another go-to receiver, Mike Sims-Walker notched one reception in his first game as a St. Louis Ram in Week One prior to posting at least 43 catches in each of the previous two years with the Jacksonville Jaguars. And on special teams, Matt Prater (2002-05) converted on a pair of field goals for the Denver Broncos vs. the Oakland Raiders, and has made 78.7 percent of his field-goal attempts in an NFL uniform.

Meanwhile, receiver Jamar Newsome (2007-10) is in his first year with the Jaguars, and two-time C-USA Defensive Player of the Year Bruce Miller (2007-10) has converted to a fullback for the San Francisco 49ers. Also a part of the 2010 麻豆原创 Liberty Bowl championship squad, Kamar Aiken (2007-10) is on the practice squad for the Buffalo Bills.

Three more Knights are enjoying life on NFL defenses. Asante Samuel (1999-02) has entered his fourth season with the Philadelphia Eagles. A two-time Super Bowl champion with the Patriots, Samuel has 42-career interceptions in the NFL.

Up front, Leger Douzable (2004-07) added a tackle and one pass break-up for the Jaguars last weekend, and Torell Troup (2006-09) appeared in 15 games in 2010 for the Bills, totaling 23 tackles.

Six Straight for NFL Knights? /news/six-straight-for-nfl-knights/ Thu, 28 Apr 2011 20:31:19 +0000 /news/?p=23440 At some point over the coming days 麻豆原创 will have a player selected in the NFL Draft for the sixth consecutive year and the ninth time in the past 10 years. Which Knight will go first is uncertain but there is seemingly no doubt that 麻豆原创 will continue its spot as a fixture when the league’s player personnel brain trust assembles in New York City and “war rooms” at stadiums across the country Thursday through Saturday.

Whether that first pick is Jah Reid (Haines City, Fla.), Bruce Miller (Canton, Ga.), Jamar Newsome (St. Petersburg, Fla.), Kamar Aiken (Miami, Fla.), David Williams (Lexington, S.C.) or another Knight remains to be seen but they will be entering into a strong fraternity of NFL Knights by the end of the weekend.

麻豆原创 is tied with East Carolina for the most NFL Draft selections since the Knights joined the conference in 2005. With a pick in each of the past five drafts and in eight of the last nine years, 麻豆原创 joins BYU and Fresno State as the only schools from outside of the automatically qualifying BCS conferences which can make this lofty claim.

The program started with exceptionally humble beginnings as a Division III squad in 1979 but just eight years later 麻豆原创 entered the draft when Ted Wilson and Elgin Davis were taken in the 1987 draft by Washington and New England, respectively. A year later, the Knights too a big step forward with a pair of draftees in the top five rounds as Bernard Ford went high in the third round to Buffalo and Corris Ervin became a fifth-round selection by Denver.

麻豆原创 had at least one player taken in four out of the five drafts from 1991-96 before cementing its place on the national scene I 1999. That year the dynamic Daunte Culpepper became 麻豆原创’s first-ever first round pick. The quarterback was taken at No. 11 overall by Minnesota and that pick would prove wise as Culpepper went on to play in three Pro Bowls for the Vikings. That 1999 draft, which also included Paul Miranda in the fourth round to Indianapolis, started a great trend for 麻豆原创 as the Knights have had a player picked in 10 of the 12 drafts starting in 1999.

Amongst the many 麻豆原创 draft highlights of the 2000s was Travis Fisher going in the second round to St. Louis in 2002; future Pro Bowler and two-time Super Bowl champion Asante Samuel going in the fourth round to New England in 2003; receivers Mike Sims-Walker (2007) and Brandon Marshall (2006) going in the third and fourth rounds, respectively, to Jacksonville and Denver; and three Knights being selected in 2008 led by Kevin Smith atop the third round to Detroit.

Last April Torell Troup became the second-highest pick in 麻豆原创’s NFL history as a massive nose tackles went early in the second round, No. 41 overall, to the Buffalo Bills. At some point tonight through Saturday, several of his teammates as a Knight will look to join Troup in the league. Which one will go first and become 麻豆原创’s 27th all-time NFL Draft pick remains to be seen.

麻豆原创 Wins by 20, To Host Title Game /news/ucf-wins-by-20-to-host-title-game/ /news/ucf-wins-by-20-to-host-title-game/#comments Sat, 27 Nov 2010 22:33:31 +0000 /news/?p=18211 For a game that lacked much drama, not to mention a lot of sharpness on either side of the football for long stretches, 麻豆原创 still allowed itself to dream big on this sunny Saturday at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.

Having already locked up a spot in next week’s Conference USA title game, 麻豆原创 went out in the regular-season finale and took care of business against Memphis and continued to carry the belief that if it can keep winning it can be back in the Liberty Bowl again in a month.

麻豆原创 used another spectacular day from freshman quarterback Jeff Godfrey and two-touchdown efforts from wide out Jamar Newsome and tailback Latavius Murray to pull away from Memphis 37-17 before a crowd of 14,992.

The victory ensured that the Knights (9-3 overall and 7-1 in Conference USA play) will head into Saturday’s Conference USA title game against SMU (7-5 and 6-2) with plenty of positive momentum. 麻豆原创 has won seven of its last eight games with a home loss against Southern Miss being the only blip since Sept. 25.

Win next Saturday and the Knights could be back in Memphis for the Dec. 31 Liberty Bowl for the second time in school history. Several of 麻豆原创’s seniors admitted that nothing would be sweeter than ending the season in the same place many of them did in 2007.

“I’m not going to lie, I’ve definitely thought about coming back here to the Liberty Bowl,” said 麻豆原创 senior linebacker Derrick Hallman, who recorded his first interception of the season on Saturday. “But I’m extremely excited about going to play next week so we can have that opportunity to play (in another Liberty Bowl).”

The Knights actually secured a spot in next Saturday’s Conference USA title game and clinched the East Division crown for a third time in six years the day before when SMU beat East Carolina in overtime and Southern Miss lost to Tulsa. The Knights and Mustangs haven’t played since 2008, a 麻豆原创 31-17 win. The two teams are slated to meet again next season in Dallas.

“There were some guys running through the hallways (at the team hotel) when we found out we were in the title game, but we knew that we still had to come out and play hard (on Saturday),” said 麻豆原创 standout senior defensive end Bruce Miller, who became the school’s all-time leader in sacks (32) with two QB drops on Saturday. “Our goal is the conference championship, but it’s also to go out and win every game. But there was a sigh of relief knowing we were going to get into that game. We’re expecting a full house and a great atmosphere and it’s going to be a great game.”

Tickets for the C-USA title game at Bright House Networks Stadium are on sale for $30 at TicketMaster.com, 麻豆原创Athletics.com or by calling (407) 823-1000. 麻豆原创 also hosted the game in 2005 and 2007, losing to Tulsa in 2005 and defeating the Golden Hurricane in 2007.

麻豆原创’s nine wins are tied for the second-most in school history, trailing only the 10 in 1990 and 2007. And on Saturday, 麻豆原创 won its school-record fifth road game of the season. The Knights had never won more than four times away from Orlando before this season.

麻豆原创 coach George O’Leary said there was great satisfaction in his team closing out the regular season with a convincing victory even though there was little to play for. O’Leary is also proud that the Knights set a goal before the season of winning the conference title and now they are in position to do just that.

“We came away from here with a good win, a conference win and we secured the Eastern Division. Now, all that is left to do is go play SMU in the conference championship game,” O’Leary said. “I know our fan base will be excited about it and our players are very excited about it. … We’ll have our hands full and I’m looking forward to playing SMU.”

Godfrey, who breathed life into 麻豆原创’s offense with his dazzling play-making skills on the ground and through the air, closed his first regular season as a Knight by completing 14 of 17 passes for 252 yards and two touchdowns. With a 245.79 efficiency rating, it is his third game this season with a rating of 232 or better.

“I started off kind of slow where I wasn’t making the right reads, but in the second half I picked it up, the O-line did a good job protecting and we played better in the second half,” Godfrey said. “We set this goal at the beginning of the season all through camp. Now, we want to win it.”

Newsome, 麻豆原创’s blossoming wide receiver, had touchdown catches of 56 and 23 yards early in the fourth quarter to break open the game. Newsome had the third 100-yard game of the season with 118 yards on nine catches. And his first touchdown catch extended 麻豆原创’s streak of consecutive games with a 40-yard touchdown catch to six games.

“It’s a lovely feeling (being in the title game),” Newsome said. “Our coach has been saying that it’s not often you get a chance to reach your goals and we have that opportunity now. It’s a lovely, lovely feeling.’

麻豆原创 freshman Jordan Ozerities, who returned an interception 100 yards a week ago at Tulane on the game’s final play, opened the second half by forcing a fumble on the kickoff. Two minutes later, Murray was in the end zone for a touchdown that put the Knights up 23-7.

麻豆原创 muddled through a sloppy first half and led 16-7 at the break. The lead certainly could have been much more substantial had the Knights not had a touchdown wiped out by an illegal pick penalty, a fumble inside the 20-yard line and a hooked extra point.

The Knights scored first for the 11th time in 12 games when Godfrey scampered around left end for a nine-yard touchdown run. It was his 10th rushing touchdown of the season, extending his 麻豆原创 record for rushing scores by a freshman quarterback.

But a Memphis team that had mustered very little offense all season immediately responded with a score of its own to tie the game at seven-all. Coming into the game, 麻豆原创 had allowed just 20 points in the first quarter all season, while the Tigers had just scored 35 first-period points.

Miller secured his place in the 麻豆原创’s history books by becoming the Knights’ all-time leader in sacks with 32. Miller dropped Memphis’ quarterback Ryan Williams twice in the first half to unseat previous record-holder Darrell Rudd (1981-84).

Said O’Leary: “I’ve been around a lot of good football players and Bruce Miller is as good as any of them. He just does so many things well. He’s kind of playing out of position for us, but it’s because he’s so unselfish.”

Miller said he savored setting the record, but he was even prouder of the fact that the Knights are a win away from accomplishing their goal of a second league title in four years. And that, he knows, could put 麻豆原创 back in the Liberty Bowl again.

“I’ve been to the title game before and I know what it takes to get there and these guys have done that and more,” Miller said. “Ending the season 7-1 with the best record in the conference, we deserve it because we’ve put in so much work. This year has been a grind and our guys have done a good job all season of playing how we know we’re supposed to play.”

One and Done, But Far From Out /news/one-and-done-but-far-from-out/ /news/one-and-done-but-far-from-out/#comments Sat, 13 Nov 2010 22:50:12 +0000 /news/?p=17775 麻豆原创’s fairy tale sprint into the nation’s Top 25 rankings came to a screeching, nightmarish halt when Southern Miss ripped off 31 consecutive points and upset the No. 25/23-ranked Knights 31-21 at Bright House Networks Stadium.

For a 麻豆原创 squad that had won 11 consecutive conference games over two years and five straight this season, losing for the first time in more than a month was shocking to the system if not downright stunning.

“Really, this is just a punch in the face that brings us back to reality and shows that we can be beaten,” said wide out Brian Watters, one of 19 seniors honored before the final regular-season home game in Orlando. “We have to come out here and play our best football or the results can be the same again regardless of who we play.”

At 7-3 overall and 5-1 in C-USA play, 麻豆原创 is still in total control of its own destiny as far as accomplishing its stated goal of winning the league championship. The Knights must now go on the road the next two weeks and beat either Tulane or Memphis to sew up the East Division and possibly both to sew up home field advantage for the Dec. 4 C-USA title game.

That’s a bit of solace to a 麻豆原创 team that was clearly stunned at all that transpired on Saturday. “(Complacency), that’s what it looked like because we definitely weren’t ready to play,” said standout defensive end Bruce Miller, who had three tackles, a pass breakup and a quarterback hurry. “This is what happens when you’re not ready. … The goals are still there. This is a setback, but we just need to regroup, get in and figure out what went wrong and start on Tulane. Our goals are still there and we’ll keep pushing for them.”

Facing its third consecutive no-huddle, hurry-up offense in as many weeks, 麻豆原创’s defense seemed to wear down and was unable to get key stops. Southern Miss (7-3, 4-2) churned out 24 first downs and 414 yards of offense, but even more troubling was 麻豆原创’s inability to get key stops on third down. Southern Miss converted 11 of 16 times on third down, allowing the Golden Eagles to run 72 plays compared to 麻豆原创’s 59.

“You play the schedule you are dealt. When you win those games you don’t make excuses, so you shouldn’t make them when you lose,” 麻豆原创 coach George O’Leary said of 麻豆原创’s difficult three-game stretch against East Carolina, Houston and Southern Miss. “We didn’t make plays on defense, we give up way too many easy pass plays and we’re too soft at linebacker. And offensively, we didn’t make enough plays.”

That 麻豆原创 jumped up 14-0 on Saturday by routinely gashing Southern Miss through the air and on the ground made the defeat even more shocking to the Knights and the 40,358 fans in attendance. Tailback Ronnie Weaver had 108 yards in his first six carries and freshman phenom quarterback Jeff Godfrey ran for a touchdown and threw another one as 麻豆原创 led by 14 points after just 9 minutes and 20 seconds of play.

But all of that positive momentum came crumbling down when Weaver ran for just four yards the rest of the game, Godfrey uncharacteristically threw two interceptions and a 麻豆原创 defense that has been nationally ranked most of the season couldn’t get stops. Southern Miss junior quarterback Austin Davis riddled 麻豆原创’s secondary and linebackers for 264 yards and four touchdowns and he was sacked just once all day.

“We’ve been stressing (third-down stops) for the last three games and we’re still making mistakes and not playing our assignments. We can’t move forward if we can’t get off the field on third down,” said cornerback Josh Robinson, who had an interception, a pass break-up and five tackles. “It’s a shock, especially when you expect to win and everybody has the mindset that we’re going to win. But we didn’t execute and we couldn’t pull it off.”

麻豆原创’s offense came into the game averaging 41.5 points a game against C-USA foes and the Knights had been so efficient of late that they punted just twice in the previous eight quarters. But with little going on the ground, 麻豆原创 became too one-dimensional and Southern Miss sent blitzes at Godfrey in waves.

The true freshman completed 16 of 25 passes for 190 yards, but was hurt by a couple of wide-open drops by his receivers. He was sacked three times and mostly hemmed in when trying to scramble for yardage, running for just six net yards. And Godfrey was briefly knocked from the game when he was hit by two Southern Miss players, but he returned to throw a 40-yard touchdown pass to senior wide out Jamar Newsome (five catches, 100 yards) in the fourth quarter.

“It was shocking a little bit, but Southern Miss did a good job adjusting to our offense,” Godfrey said. “I think we got too relaxed, that was our big problem. Everybody was just in cool mode and we fell short after that.”

Trailing 17-14 at the half, 麻豆原创 suffered a couple of bad blows when Southern Miss marched 65 yards in 10 plays and scored when 6-foot-6 receiver DeAndre Brown outjumped 5-foot-9 麻豆原创 cornerback Emery Allen for a 10-yard touchdown. What was particularly galling to the Knights was that Southern Miss converted on third down three times – once by penalty and twice with double-digit gainers.

“(Third down) has been a problem for a few weeks now. That hurt us really bad, not being able to get off the field and letting them sustain drives, hold onto the ball and put points up,” Miller said. “Every week our offense isn’t going to be able to score 40 points, so we have to make stops and get off the field.”

And when 麻豆原创 missed a chance to trim the lead to seven points when Jamie Boyle’s 30-yard field goal sailed wide left, the Knights were left to try and stomach a loss that robbed them of their unbeaten status in conference play and will almost certainly knock them out of the Top 25 after a one-week stay.

“This is a very frustrating loss. We’ve worked so hard, but we didn’t execute in this one like we needed to,” Newsome said. “We jumped out to a great start and I’m not sure if everybody got comfortable or what, but the momentum shifted. It’s very disappointing, but all we can do now is put this loss under our belts, get back on the ball and perform better.”

麻豆原创 Runs Over Marshall 35-14 /news/ucf-runs-over-marshall-35-14/ Thu, 14 Oct 2010 10:48:02 +0000 /news/?p=16785 As it turns out, Marshall’s white out was a wash out as 麻豆原创 once again flexed its considerable muscles against its biggest rival in Conference USA.

Freshman phenom quarterback Jeff Godfrey ran for two touchdowns, Ronnie Weaver pounded out a career-best 150 yards and 麻豆原创’s nationally ranked defense produced its fourth touchdown in the past four weeks as the Knights whipped Marshall 35-14 in rainy conditions.

“I told our guys that (Marshall) wanted to wear their white jerseys, but obviously they didn’t know how well we play in our black jerseys,” 麻豆原创 senior linebacker Derrick Hallman said. “We wanted to make them regret picking those (white) jerseys.”

The victory was 麻豆原创’s sixth in a row against Marshall, their most heated rival from the past nine seasons. The Knights have now won three-straight times in Huntington, W.Va.

At 4-2 overall, 麻豆原创 is off to its best start since 1998. Knights’ fans will undoubtedly remember that as legendary quarterback Daunte Culpepper’s senior season. Now, it’s clearly a new era, one dominated by the electric playmaking of Godfrey and a tough, opportunistic defense.

麻豆原创 also improved to 2-0 in Conference USA play and hasn’t lost a league game since Sept. 26 of last season, a winning streak of eight-consecutive games against C-USA foes. Also, 麻豆原创 won for a second-consecutive week on ESPN, which provided national exposure for a Knights’ program that is clearly on the rise and potentially a championship contender in Conference USA.

“I thought our guys really responded to the distractions and the weather and handled it all really well,” 麻豆原创 coach George O’Leary said. “I thought we did a lot of things right on both sides of the ball. That was a tough win because Marshall plays really well up here.”

Weaver, the former walk-on from Wabasso, pounded Marshall (1-5) all night with his hard running between the tackles. Weaver, who has replaced Jonathan Davis as 麻豆原创’s starting talback, ran for 130 yards two weeks ago against Kansas State and was even better Wednesday night. On Wednesday, he had six carries of at least nine yards, often shaking off tacklers along the way. His 30 carries were also a career high.

“A game like this really shows that our team is coming together,” Weaver said. “We have a feeling in games like this that it’s us against the world. We just try to band together as brothers and do the best we can.”

麻豆原创 used a 70-yard kickoff return from senior Jamar Newsome to start the second half and pulled away over the final two quarters.

Godfrey ran for a nine-yard touchdown in the first half and added a five-yard scramble score in the third quarter that put 麻豆原创 comfortably ahead 21-7. For the game, he ran for 27 yards and the two scores and completed 11-of-21 passes for 138 more yards.

Said O’Leary: “He did it with his arm early and his feet late. He has the ability to make a lot of plays and that’s what you want out of a quarterback. He has the ability to take a bad play and make something good out of it.”

麻豆原创 smashed Marshall for 362 total yards and 22 first downs, moving the ball almost at will throughout the game.

“We came into this game knowing we had to be more physical and play like a dominant team,” tight end Adam Nissley said. “We really wanted to establish the run and that’s what we did.”

The only negative of the night for the Knights was a possible season-ending knee injury to reserve quarterback Rob Calabrese, who was hurt in the end zone after scoring 麻豆原创’s first touchdown of the night.

麻豆原创 now has 10 days to prepare for its homecoming game on Oct. 23 against Rice. The Knights routed the Owls 49-7 last season in Houston. 麻豆原创 is 20-10 all-time on homecoming and beat Houston 37-32 last season on homecoming.

For a second time in three weeks, 麻豆原创 had a game delayed by severe weather. On Sept. 25 at Kansas State, the Knights were sent to the locker room for 1 hour, 26 minutes during a vicious thunderstorm that included high winds and heavy rain.

This time, rain started falling just prior to kickoff, intensified as the game continued and was stopped with 6:06 left in the first half. Teams were in the locker room for an hour and then given 10 minutes to warm up once again. Because of the delay, halftime was shortened to three minutes – the same break that there is between quarters.

The rain wiped out much of the 23,601 fans in attendance, many of whom wore white in honor of Marshall’s white out promotion. The Thundering Herd petitioned the C-USA league office to wear white uniforms at home and 麻豆原创 happily agree to don its black uniforms. The Knights are now 5-1 in black uniforms over the past two seasons.

麻豆原创 got a big defensive score when sophomore safety A.J. Bouye returned an interception 42 yards for a touchdown that put 麻豆原创 up 28-7. It is the third time this season that the Knights have returned an interception for a touchdown, a school record. Also, it’s the fourth defensive touchdown in four games for the Knights.

麻豆原创 entered the game ranked second nationally in passing efficiency defense (92.29 rating), fifth in passing defense (148.2 ypg), eighth in scoring defense (13.8 ppg) and ninth in total defense (265.2 ypg) – numbers that undoubtedly will improve after another dominant 麻豆原创 performance.

麻豆原创 suffered a blow early in the game when Calabrese jammed his knee on a 2-yard touchdown run and was clearly in severe pain. Calabrese’s left knee buckled after he had crossed into the end zone and he hopped to the sideline without putting weight on his left leg. He sat on the bench the rest of the first half with his knee wrapped in ice and his head covered with a towel. And he needed the help of two athletic trainers to hop to the locker room when the game was halted because of a weather delay with 6:06 left in the first half.

“I’m hoping that the doctor is wrong,” O’Leary said during the weather delay, suggesting that Calabrese suffered a major knee injury. “It wasn’t a contact thing. He went to hand the ball to the referee and as he turned there was a pop.”

Calabrese, a junior, entered the season as the starting quarterback and led the Knights to a win against South Dakota. He gave way to Godfrey in the NC State game, and played sparingly against Buffalo and UAB. He did throw a touchdown pass against UAB while alternating snaps with Godfrey.

L.D. Crow, a Palm Harbor native who sat out last season after transferring from Stanford, moves up to the back-up spot behind Godfrey. Redshirt freshman Nico Flores is also an option at quarterback, especially as a runner. Promising freshman Blake Bortles also could see time if needed.

麻豆原创 led just 14-7 at the half despite outgaining Marshall 214-149 in the first two quarters. The Knights got a good push from the offensive line, especially on the right side with guard Nick Pieschel, tackle Jah Reid and tight end Adam Nissley, and rushed for 120 first-half yards.

麻豆原创 did as it pleased on both sides of the ball early in the game, storming to a 14-0 lead before the second quarter was 90 seconds old. Godfrey had completions of 18, 18 and seven yards to keep the Marshall defense off balance. And then Godfrey finished off the dazzling 11-play, 80-yard drive with a nine-yard touchdown run that was a thing of beauty. Godfrey sprinted left, juked inside a defender and hit the gap for his third rushing touchdown of the season.

Marshall pinned 麻豆原创 deep with a punt and then took advantage of good field possession to draw back within 14-7 midway through the second period. Six-foot-3 wide out Aaron Dobson beat 麻豆原创 cornerback Justin Boddie (6-foot-2) and hauled in a 12-yard touchdown pass. The play was reviewed for several minutes, but was ultimately called a touchdown when replays showed that Dobson made the acrobatic catch and somehow got his right foot inbounds. As he jumped, Dobson’s foot knocked over the end-line pylon – a violation – but was allowed because he was hit by Boddie with the ball in the air.

麻豆原创 mixed the run with the pass beautifully on the game’s first possession, driving 79 yards in 12 plays for a score that put 麻豆原创 up 7-0. The Knights converted five first downs on their opening possession, three times coming through on third down. And Calabrese finished off the drive by faking a handoff and darting up the middle from 2 yards out.
