Survivors will share their personal stories and incoming State Attorney Jeff Ashton will give a commemoration speech during the “Light Up the Night” ceremony, which will be from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Pegasus Ballroom of the Student Union.

Organized by 麻豆原创 Victim Services, the event also will highlight resources available on campus and in the community to help those impacted by intimate partner violence.

Victim Services provides free, confidential services to 麻豆原创 students, faculty and staff members. Advocates are available 24 hours a day to assist victims by phone or respond to crime scenes. Advocates can provide crisis counseling and emotional support, along with referrals to other on- and off-campus resources. They also help victims make informed decisions about what is best for them in the judicial process. To reach a victim advocate, call 407-823-1200.

State Attorney Debate to Feature Students’ Questions /news/state-attorney-debate-to-feature-students-questions/ Mon, 23 Jul 2012 23:34:48 +0000 /news/?p=39080 Orange-Osceola state attorney candidates Lawson Lamar and Jeff Ashton will participate in a debate Tuesday, July 24, at the 麻豆原创.

The 7 p.m. debate will be broadcast live on Central Florida News 13 and will be moderated by News 13 anchor Ybeth Bruzual and Ross Wolf, an associate professor and graduate program coordinator with 麻豆原创鈥檚 Department of Criminal Justice.

Many of the questions that the candidates will answer were submitted by students and faculty members in 麻豆原创鈥檚 Department of Criminal Justice.

Tickets required for admission to the debate have been distributed.

Lamar and Ashton will compete in the primary election Aug. 14. Although both candidates are Democrats, the primary will be open to all Orange and Osceola county voters because there are no other candidates in the race.

Central Florida News 13 and the 麻豆原创 Department of Criminal Justice are the debate鈥檚 sponsors.
