The Outstanding Service Project Award went to the National Society of Minorities in Hospitality (NSMH) 麻豆原创 Chapter for their contribution to the local community through their collaborations with Colonial High School, Bethune Cookman University and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, among others.

The Campus Engagement Award was awarded to the Knights Special Events Society for continuously encouraging students to participate in their meetings, site visits and networking opportunities with local event industry professionals.

The Campus Innovation Award went to the Future Theme Park Leaders Association for creating 鈥淲orkshop Wednesdays鈥� that helps students learn about personal branding, interview skills, elevator pitches, resume building and more.

The Rosen Life V.I.P. Award was presented to the Association of Bridal Consultants for their dedication to student involvement in the community, Rosen College and Rosen Life events throughout the year. Some of their achievements include participating in the Memory Mall Relay for Life and hosting celebrity wedding planner Susan Southerland at one of their meetings.

The Creative Collaboration Award was given to both Late Knights and the Rosen College Apartments for working with Rosen Life to host the first successful late night programming event on campus, 鈥淚 Love Rosen.鈥�

Finally, senior hospitality management major and Miss Hospitality 2016 Erica Flint was awarded the Rosen College Legacy Award. For the second consecutive year, Dr. Abraham Pizam, dean of the Rosen College, partnered with Rosen Life to recognize a student鈥檚 outstanding professionalism, leadership, involvement on the Rosen campus and in the hospitality industry, and enrichment of the Rosen college student experience. A panel of faculty members selected Flint to receive the honor along with a $1,000 scholarship.

鈥淒espite the entire Late Knights team being new, we completely exceeded our own expectations for this event and now know what we are capable of in the future,鈥� said Late Knights Executive Director Douglas Jensen.

The event featured a limbo contest, boogie board giveaway, and a screening of Disney鈥檚 Lilo and Stitch. In addition to the entertainment of a live DJ, students also enjoyed free pizza, snow cones and cotton candy. Students really got into the island party theme wearing their luau leis and T-shirts. They danced, splashed in the pool, and tested their skills and flexibility in the limbo dance throughout the evening.

Jensen said he was 鈥渋ncredibly proud鈥� to have hosted this event, the first of many for him and his team.

Late Knights is a bi-monthly event that provides free food, prizes, and entertainment to 麻豆原创 students, their families, friends and the community. The events, held on campus from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m., are a great way to make new friends. In the past, all Late Knights have been held on a Friday evening.

The week kicked off in the Student Union as OSI鈥檚 600 clubs and organizations exhibited what they had to offer to 4,100 students for KORT鈥檚 Opening Knight. On the first day of classes, CAB welcomed 1,450 students into CFE Arena for Movie Knight, featuring Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier, and kept the week going with Comedy Knight (Hannibal Buress and Hal Sparks; 3,149 students) and Concert Knight, showcasing YouTube sensation Karmin and 麻豆原创 alumni Alex & Sierra (2,331).

Late Knights invited students on Friday night to the Red, White, 麻豆原创 Knights All-American Block Party on the south patio of the union. More than 2,300 students enjoyed inflatable slides, made tie dye T-shirts, and participated in a watermelon eating contest.

OSI鈥檚 agencies continued to engage students throughout the weekend as V麻豆原创鈥檚 Day of Service sent 121 student volunteers to Clean the World and Second Harvest on Saturday morning where they completed a combined 448 hours of community service. Second Harvest has provided over 300,000,000 meals since it鈥檚 opening in 1983. At Clean the World, 麻豆原创 students helped provide soap and other hygiene products to over 5,000 people in need. This was done in just five hours of labor. To finish the day, students went to Lake Claire to enjoy some pizza and ice cream.

鈥淲e would like to thank everyone who took part in this fruitful event for giving Volunteer 麻豆原创 a fantastic start to the year,鈥� said Fahad Siddiqui, public relations director for V麻豆原创.

Later that night, 125 students participated in Knight-Thon鈥檚 annual 5k run. CAB finished off a successful week for OSI with a VIP Pool Party at the leisure pool attended by 927 students.

For the week of Pegasus Palooza, OSI鈥檚 agencies offered multiple opportunities for students for involvement and engagement. For the eight events offered by five agencies, 14,634 students participated.

OSI is a department in the Division of Student Development and Enrollment Services.

麻豆原创 Family Weekend is an annual tradition bringing together families and students to create memories that will last a lifetime. Student Development and Enrollment Services staff looks forward to meeting聽family and friends on Friday, September 27 to Sunday, September 29.

A variety of events are planned throughout the weekend such as: Friday Knight Welcome, Family Weekend Breakfast, Late Knights, Tour of the Health Center, Breakfast and Bigger Beds, and 麻豆原创 Football vs. South Carolina.

Family Weekend begins Friday, Sept. 27. The previously scheduled college open houses will be postponed to a later date to accommodate the Knights鈥� noon kickoff against the South Carolina Gamecocks at Bright House Networks Stadium on Saturday.

On Friday, 麻豆原创 women鈥檚 soccer team will face their rivals, USF, at 6 p.m. at the 麻豆原创 Soccer Complex. The volleyball team also will play USF on Friday with a match start of 8 p.m. at the Venue. 麻豆原创 students are admitted free to both games with their student IDs, and adult tickets will be for sale for $5 for each game.

麻豆原创 Athletics also will distribute 2,000 early entry passes for Saturday鈥檚 football game to students with a valid ID who attend the soccer and volleyball games. The passes will serve as an early entry option for the game but will not guarantee admission.

The Recreation & Wellness Center will host a welcome party featuring food, music and other entertainment from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday. The event costs $25 per person.

Late Knights鈥攖he monthly late-night alcohol-alternative program鈥攚ill start at 10 p.m. Friday in the Student Union. 鈥淕ame Knight鈥� will feature Jenga, Twister and other classic games, as well as music and other entertainment.

Student Development and Enrollment Services will host its annual family weekend breakfast from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the Pegasus Ballroom of the Student Union. The event is $20 per person.

The Student Government Association鈥檚 Family Weekend Tailgate will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at Knights Plaza. The free event will include games, giveaways and live music.

Families visiting students who live in 麻豆原创 Housing can participate in free housewarming parties in select communities.

The Rosen College of Hospitality Management will celebrate its 30th anniversary with family-oriented, New Orleans-inspired brunches on Sunday. Brunches will begin at 10 and 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Theatre 麻豆原创鈥檚 production of The Underpants also will be showing throughout Family Weekend. The laugh-out loud play adapted by comedian Steve Martin focuses on the human spirit of curiosity and how a small bit of impropriety can cause the biggest scandal. It will play at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the 麻豆原创 Black Box Theatre.
Tickets are $10 for students and $20 for other guests.

Late Knights partnered with the Diversified Greek Council to showcase both Late Knights鈥� activities and the annual show, 鈥淢eet the Greeks.鈥� The first 200 attendees had the opportunity to receive henna tattoos. The Student Union was filled with activities including arts and crafts and information tables from various student organizations. The Heath Center鈥檚 station educated attendees about the BAC [blood alcohol count] index and simulated the impaired vision of people that were inebriated through the use of Beer Goggles. Attendees were also eager to watch Diversified Greek Council鈥檚 stepping and strolling performances.

More activities, located on the Student Union patio, included a dance floor, log roll inflatable, Velcro wall, photo booth, huge inflatable slide and an obstacle course. Food from Smoothie King and Wackadoos was served later that evening. Giveaways such as T-shirts were distributed to attendees.

The next Late Knights 鈥淟ittle Knight of Horrors鈥� is on October 14 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Memory Mall.

Hefferin, an 18-year-old freshman from Maitland, was found by roommates in their Lake Claire residence at about 4 a.m. on Aug. 25. A call was placed to 911, CPR was performed and emergency units responded immediately.

Hefferin was transported to Florida Hospital East at about 4:30 a.m.

Following more than a day of interviews, 麻豆原创 police have determined that Hefferin was at the Sigma Chi fraternity house on campus for a little more than an hour the evening of Aug. 24. Interviews have led police to conclude that alcohol was present at the fraternity house, which is a violation of university rules.

鈥淎lthough we do not know if it played a role in Ann鈥檚 death, alcohol was at the Sigma Chi house, which is a violation of university policy,鈥� said 麻豆原创 spokesperson Grant J. Heston. 鈥淭his is a serious matter; the fraternity is immediately subject to our disciplinary process and will be held accountable for its actions. We await news from the medical examiner that will help further guide our investigation and response.鈥�

Many fraternity and sorority events must be approved by their national offices and the university, and this activity was not approved by 麻豆原创 or the national office.

麻豆原创 is sending Sigma Chi and the Delta Delta Delta sorority a notification to cease all social activities while the incident continues to be investigated. 麻豆原创 is home to 46 Greek organizations involving more than 3,000 students.

According to 麻豆原创鈥檚 鈥淕olden Rule鈥� student handbook, penalties for a fraternity can consist of sanctions up to and including a recommendation that its charter be revoked. Sigma Chi has been in good standing with the university and is not currently on probation or subject to university sanctions.

鈥淲e continue to grieve this terrible loss and to offer our assistance to Ann鈥檚 family and friends,鈥� Heston said.

麻豆原创 offers a variety of alcohol prevention programs designed to help students stay safe and make responsible decisions about alcohol use. The U.S. Department of Education recognized 麻豆原创鈥檚 alcohol education programs as a national model in 2010.

All freshmen are required to complete a two-hour online alcohol education course that covers how to call for help if a friend appears intoxicated, how to refuse an offer for a drink, myths and misperceptions about alcohol and more. In addition, all resident assistants completed a two-hour program this summer designed to help them recognize signs of high-risk drinking and to help their peers make sound decisions regarding alcohol.

麻豆原创鈥檚 Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention Programming office gives regular presentations in classes, student organizations鈥� meetings and in residence halls, as well as at events open to all students. 麻豆原创 also offers students Late Knights programs that provide fun activities such as music and dancing in an alcohol-free environment.

The evening Race Knight-themed entertainment included Race to the Top inflatables, Spider Zone, Bath Tub Racing and Horse Racing. Knights could feel like they were at the actual races by playing the Daytona 500 arcade game. More video games were available through GameStop, such as Xbox 360 Kinect. Other activities included the Text and Drive Simulator, fun photos, arts and crafts. Attendees could also dance to the beat of the top 40 hits.

The first 200 attendees who raced to the entrance received customized street signs. Everyone had the opportunity to receive free T-shirts, Late Knights lanyards and totes, prizes, free Smoothie Kings and free food at midnight. Throughout the event, Knights could talk with registered student organizations to learn more about 麻豆原创 involvement.

The next聽LK聽聽is聽themed聽“Pirates”聽will be on April 15.聽Late Knights is a monthly student-run event at the 麻豆原创 providing free admission, food, fun and giveaways. Late Knights is an agency of the Office of Student Involvement in the Division of Student Development and Enrollment Services.

The first 200 attendees received personalized airbrush T-shirts. However, everyone had a chance to receive free items throughout the night, such as 鈥淜night-Glo鈥� T-shirts, glow-sticks, glow-cups and many other prizes from the vendors. Attendees enjoyed free smoothies from Smoothie King and food at midnight from Wackadoos.

As for entertainment, attendees played Hard Knocks laser tag, raced one another on the obstacle course and other inflatables, and participated in activities such as fun photos, arts and crafts. Upstairs, HP had a backlight DJ battle where students received 3-D glasses and glowing white shirts while they danced to the battling DJs playing techno music. The students interested in gaming were directed to Pegasus Ballroom to take part in the Knights 4 Gaming activities. Here they experienced the new Xbox 360 Kinect, played popular video games, and participated in the iPad or Halo: Reach tournaments. Like all Late Knights events, students had the opportunity to learn how to get involved on campus because various student organizations were present.

Late Knights is an agency in the Office of Student Involvement in the Division of Student Development and Enrollment Services. The next Late Knights 鈥淒ecades鈥� will be held on January 28, 2011聽from 9 p.m. till 1 a.m. in the Student Union.

The first 200 attendees received candy and all others were able to trick-or-treat from the student organizations tabling at the event. Free Halloween trick-or-treat tote bags were given out throughout the night to as well as themed shirts. Attendees played on the inflatable basketball course, spider zone and joust. They also rode on the mind winder, which was a favorite activity of the night. The event was complete with a palm reader and fortune teller.

Those in costume were able to enter the costume contest to win a Late Knights prize pack full of goodies.聽 Smoothie King and Leo鈥檚 Italian Ice provided special refreshments and food was served at midnight. The Knightcast DJ kept the energy flowing with his mix of top 40 and Halloween beats.
