The U.S. Army, 麻豆原创 Police, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, and Orange County Fire Rescue will be working together during the exercise at the Simulation and Training Technology Center (STTC) located in the Orlando Tech Center cluster of buildings in the Research Park.

The exercise will likely produce loud noises (including mock gun fire, explosions and shouting) and law enforcement and fire rescue activity in and around the Orlando Tech Center. All of the activity will be part of the mock exercise and not an emergency.

Access to the Orlando Tech Center will be limited for the duration of the exercise between 6 a.m. and noon.

The Army Research Laboratory – Simulation & Training Technology Center is leading the exercise. The drill will give local and federal agencies the opportunity to work together, and it also is a requirement of military installations around the country to ensure readiness for any emergency.

Earthrise Space Partners With Florida Space Institute /news/earthrise-space-inc-announces-florida-space-institute-as-new-partner/ Tue, 10 Jul 2012 20:28:54 +0000 /news/?p=38672 Omega Envoy, the Florida team competing in the Google Lunar X PRIZE, and its parent company, Earthrise Space Inc., are proud to welcome the Florida Space Institute as a new partner. FSI will provide critical test and spacecraft integration equipment for the team鈥檚 use. This will include the use of a clean room, as well as vacuum and thermal chambers.

鈥淲e at the Florida Space Institute support the goals of the Google Lunar X-Prize and are proud to be helping Earthrise Space accomplish its ambitions,鈥 said Florida Space Institute Director Dr. Alan Stern.

The equipment, already installed at ESI鈥檚 facility in Research Park near the 麻豆原创, will be used to test hardware for the company鈥檚 GLXP mission to get to the moon. The 80 square foot class 100k clean room will be used for spacecraft assembly. The cylindrical 2ft x 2ft vacuum chamber will be used to outgas spacecraft components and to test the full scale flight rover. The thermal chamber, capable of producing temperatures between -300oF and +600oF, will be used to ensure that spacecraft components can withstand the extreme temperatures found in outer space.

鈥淲e are excited to welcome the Florida Space Institute as our latest partner in the Omega Envoy project,鈥 said Joseph Palaia, Chief Operating Officer for ESI. 鈥淭he equipment they have provided will be put to direct use by our student team members as they build and test hardware for our GLXP mission. We also look forward to exploring additional areas for collaboration with FSI to pursue our very synergistic corporate objectives.鈥

The Florida Space Institute, located next to the 麻豆原创 in Research Park, is one of Florida鈥檚 premier technical education centers, and a growing leader in space research in Florida. Located near NASA鈥檚 Kennedy Space Center, FIT is perfectly situated to channel highly-trained professionals and cutting-edge technology into the classroom.

Earthrise Space, Inc. is a Florida-based non-profit corporation dedicated to developing space technology in collaboration with industry and academic institutions. ESI’s Omega Envoy Project is creating a key set of lunar spacecraft infrastructure, which will fulfill the requirements of the Google Lunar X PRIZE and provide a platform for the delivery of commercial payloads to the lunar surface. All ESI efforts involve significant numbers of students and young professionals through paid internships, providing them with hands on experience building real spacecraft, and preparing them for future employment in the entrepreneurial space industry.

Partnership III Building Construction Set to Begin in May /news/partnership-iii-building-construction-set-to-begin-in-may/ Thu, 30 Apr 2009 15:20:22 +0000 /news/?p=2166 IST will coordinate construction of the $20 million building. Funding is provided from state sources. Originally cut from Florida鈥檚 2007 budget, funding for the building was committed in 2008, just ahead of the economic downturn. Driving motivation for the partnership series is to help sustain Orlando as a hub for simulation research and industry development. The Partnership facilities help maintain a significant DoD presence, which, in turn, contributes to the local economy.

鈥淭he new building and the three other joint-use research park buildings whose renovation or construction IST has supervised are models of cooperation that have helped simulation R & D stay strong in Central Florida,鈥 said IST Director Randall Shumaker.

IST Associate Director for External Development Mark Yerkes manages the project for 麻豆原创. He also was in charge of Partnership II construction in 2003-2004. Yerkes said new construction will benefit considerably from the reuse of the former building鈥檚 designs.

鈥淧-III is basically a mirror image of P-II,鈥 said Yerkes. 鈥淭hat saved a lot of time and several millions in architectural design costs, allowing us to add energy efficiency improvements to qualify for an environmentally friendly 鈥楲EED庐 Silver鈥 designation.鈥

LEED庐 is an internationally recognized certification system that .

When construction is completed (target: summer of 2010) IST will consolidate its labs and offices into the lower floors of both P-II and P-III.
