Knights Go Green will feature 40 to 60 student volunteers stationed near recycling and trash bins on Memory Mall and at Bright House Networks Stadium, to help inform people what can be recycled. Student volunteers also will pick up recyclable items that are left behind at Memory Mall and other tailgating areas.

Zachary Good, Volunteer 鶹ԭ environmental director and a sophomore political science student, developed the plans for Knights Go Green after learning of the success that other universities, such as the University of Colorado and Arizona State University, have experienced with their recycling programs.

“Education, in my opinion, is the biggest component for bridging the gap between apathy and inconveniencethat hold a lot of individuals back from recycling,” Good said. “Knights Go Green provides volunteeropportunities to students while simultaneously educating tailgaters and attendees of the game on how to appropriatelydispose of their waste.”

The spring game will be a pilot for Knights Go Green, which is being led by Volunteer 鶹ԭ in partnership with the Student Government Association and several 鶹ԭ departments. The program is expected to continue into the 2017 football season and also could eventually expand to basketball games and other events on campus.

Volunteers can be students, staff or faculty members. To sign up, go to signupgenius.com/go/409044bafab2ba2ff2-knights.

Tailgating Times for Spring Game

As in prior seasons, tailgating for the spring game will be allowed only in the E lots around Bright House Networks Stadium and at Memory Mall.

The E lots will open to all fans at 9 a.m. Memory Mall will open at 12:30 p.m. for students and alumni who have made reservations in advance. The open container waiver for both the stadium lots and Memory Mall will begin at 12:30 p.m.

Tailgating in all lots and the open container waiver will conclude at 6 p.m., 30 minutes prior to the 6:30 p.m. kickoff.

Reservations will become available for students and alumni at 6 p.m. Sunday, April 16. To sign up, go to ucfsga.com/knightsonthemall.

Knights fans also on April 22 can join in on the second annual 鶹ԭastival, which will include pre-game events like food truck wars and a concert from country music singer Lauren Alaina. Festivities begin at 11 a.m. For more information, see the鶹ԭ Knights website.

New Tailgating Policies for Regular Season

For 鶹ԭ’s seven regular season home games, tailgating on Memory Mall and in most other areas of campus will now start six hours prior to kickoff – but no earlier than 8 a.m. To encourage Knights fans to arrive at the stadium before games begin, tailgating will conclude 30 minutes prior to kickoff.

鶹ԭ and the Student Government Association wanted to bring the tailgating times more in line with the policies of the National Football League and American Athletic Conference teams.

鶹ԭ’s new policy permits 5½ hours of tailgating for most games. The NFL permits 5 hours, and American schools generally allow between 4 and 6 hours of tailgating.

For the regular season, the E lots near the stadium, which are primarily reserved for Golden Knights Club donors, will continue to open at 8 a.m. on all game days.

Football: Clear Bag Policy, Tailgating and More /news/ucf-football-season-opener-need-know/ Wed, 31 Aug 2016 17:00:21 +0000 /news/?p=73805 The 鶹ԭ Knights football team launches its season – and a new era under head coach Scott Frost – with a home opener against South Carolina State at 7 p.m. Saturday at Bright House Networks Stadium.

Here’s what you need to know to enjoy the game – and all the fun activities before kickoff.

    New Clear Bag Policy

鶹ԭ has implemented a clear bag policy at the stadium to provide a safer environment and expedite the entry process. Fans are encouraged not to bring any bags, but if they do, only these are allowed:

  • Clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bags that do not exceed 12″ x 6″ x 12″
  • One-gallon clear plastic storage/freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar)
  • Small purses and clutch bags no larger than 4.5″ x 6.5″ (roughly the size of an adult hand)
  • Check here for more information.

    New Experiences

Frost and his coaching staff won’t be the only new things at the stadium on game day. First, at 4:45 p.m., is Knight Walk, when the team marches through IOA Plaza on their way to the stadium.

Fans will want to be inside the stadium by 6:30 p.m. for the unveiling of a bigger and better high-definition video board and sound system. Then, following the National Anthem, turn your eyes skyward for a flyover by a massive U.S. Air Force HC-130. And if that’s not enough: There will be fireworks before the game and after every Knights touchdown.

    Tickets

Season ticket packages and single-game tickets are going fast but still available. Call 407-鶹ԭ-1000.

    Tailgating

This season, prime tailgating spots on Memory Mall are again available by reservation to students and alumni. And there are 330 spaces available this year – 80 more than in 2015. Memory Mall spots are available only through the Knights on the Mall online reservation system. All spaces are already reserved for Saturday’s game. For the rest of the season, the reservation system will open at 6 p.m. on the Sunday before each home game. The spots go fast, so be ready.

Only Memory Mall requires reservations. Knights fans are welcome to tailgate without reservations in any other allowed areas on campus, and all fans are still welcome to enjoy the food trucks and other activities on Memory Mall.

For pregame fun, the 鶹ԭ Tailgate Concert Series presented by FM 96.9 The Game and iHeartRadio debuts Saturday on IOA Plaza with a free concert by the Gin Blossoms.

Tailgating activities for the 鶹ԭ-South Carolina State game will begin at noon in all lots. Fans with reserved spots on Memory Mall can check in starting at 11 a.m.

Pro tip:For tips on becoming king of all tailgaters, check out Pegasus magazine’s Ultimate Tailgating Guide.

    Alumni Indoor Tailgate

Head to the 鶹ԭFAIRWINDSAlumni Center for the Indoor Tailgate from 4-6 p.m., where alumni and guests will find afree, family-friendly zone. Make sure to show your alumni key card and driver’s license at the door.

Indoor Tailgates feature air-conditioning, clean restrooms, other NCAA games on big screens, a live DJ, a kid-friendly game room, barbecue available for purchase and more.

    Parking

Parking is free for fans on campus, although the Gold Zone lots near the stadium require a game day parking permit.

For those with a Gold Zone parking permit, E Lots and Garage F will open at 8 a.m. All other campus lots will open at noon.

As a reminder, 鶹ԭ will continue to offer $20 cash parking in Garage H on game days, which will be available to all fans. The proceeds fund first-generation scholarships.

    Shuttles

Fans can avoid game day traffic by parking at Research Pavilion and catching a Park and Ride shuttle. Fans may park at the Research Pavilion building, located at 12424 Research Parkway in the Central Florida Research Park adjacent to campus, and be transported to parking lot D1 near Memory Mall. The shuttles start two hours before kickoff and end two hours after the game ends.

Shuttles will continue to pick up students from all the apartment complexes around campus that are normally serviced, except for NorthView, Tivoli and Northgate because they’re so close to the stadium.

Other shuttles will service the Health Sciences Campus at Lake Nona, Rosen College and Palm Valley.

鶹ԭ Opens More Prime Tailgating Spaces for Students and Alumni /news/ucf-opens-prime-tailgating-spaces-students-alumni/ Fri, 26 Aug 2016 19:55:54 +0000 /news/?p=73786 Following an inaugural season that often saw Memory Mall’s prime tailgating spaces get snapped up within minutes, 鶹ԭ students and alumni will have exclusive access to even more spaces this year.

Knights on the Mall will feature approximately 330 spaces this season, an increase from about 250 in 2015. There will be more spaces in all three sections of Memory Mall – the alumni section closest to CFE Arena and the two other sections open to students.

In response to student and alumni feedback from last season, registration will open at 6 p.m. on the Sunday before each home game.

For 鶹ԭ’s Sept. 3 home opener against South Carolina State, reservations will open at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28. Spaces are reserved for free online on a first-come, first-served basis.

Tailgating activities for the 鶹ԭ-South Carolina State game will begin at noon, and fans with reserved spots on Memory Mall can check in starting at 11 a.m. The game will kick off at 7 p.m. at Bright House Networks Stadium.

Students and alumni can select their tailgating spaces for free. The person who makes the reservation must be the one to check in for the group on game day.

The Student Government Association and the university have worked together, with support from the 鶹ԭ Alumni Association and 鶹ԭ Athletics, to develop and enhance the new tailgating experience. Fans no longer have to arrive several hours before tailgating begins to land a coveted spot on Memory Mall.

Below are a handful of key questions and answers about the changes:

Can I set up my account before reservations open?

Reserving spaces will require a quick process to set up a user account on the site. To ensure the fastest access to tailgating spaces once reservations go live, it is recommended that students and alumni set up their accounts before Sunday evening. The same account can be used to make reservations for future games.

To establish an account, go to www.knightsonthemall.com.

Can I reserve spaces for the entire season?

Reservations for each game must be made separately.

How will reservations work for the Family Weekend game?

Reservations for 鶹ԭ’s second home game, Sept. 17 against Maryland, will open to alumni and students at 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11.

Can students and alumni sign up for specific spaces?

Yes. They can select a space from the map on the registration website.

What else is new on Memory Mall this season?

Large water coolers purchased by the Student Government Association will be set up throughout Memory Mall and refilled throughout the day for fans to use for free.

    What does my reservation include?

It guarantees a designated tailgating spot on game day. Fans must provide their own tailgating gear.Student reservations include a complimentary parking pass for Garage H provided by the Student Government Association.

How late can I check in if I have a reserved space?

Fans with tailgating spots must check in no later than three hours before kickoff.

Will I be able to register for a space on game day?

Unreserved spaces (if any) will be available to students and alumni starting at check-in time – 11 a.m. for the South Carolina State game. Those interested should go to any of the three check-in tables set up on Memory Mall. Additional spaces may become available starting three hours before kickoff if some fans with tailgating spots have not checked in.

Where can fans who do not have reservations tailgate?

They can set up their gear in any other allowed areas on campus except for Memory Mall. All fans are still welcome to enjoy the food trucks and other activities on Memory Mall.

The “Knights on the Mall” reservation system will open at 10 a.m. Monday so fans can select their preferred pre-game space for the Nov. 26 matchup with USF.

There are also a small number of spaces still available in the alumni section of Memory Mall for the East Carolina game on Thursday, Nov. 19.

The Mall features food trucks, music and live entertainment.

Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. at Bright House Networks Stadium for both of 鶹ԭ’s final home games. For the East Carolina game, tailgating on Memory Mall starts at 4 p.m. For the USF game, tailgating begins at noon.

Students and alumni can select free tailgating spaces by visiting the Knights on the Mall website. The spots are popular and tend to go quickly, so plan accordingly. If you’re not able to reserve a spot, there’s still a chance: Reserved spaces with cancellations or no-shows will become available on a first-come, first-served basis the afternoon of each game.

Visit this map to view Memory Mall tailgating spaces and check-in areas.

Only spots on Memory Mall must be reserved. All other tailgating spots on campus are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Knights on the Mall to Feature Live Music, Reserved Spaces /news/knights-on-the-mall-to-feature-live-music-reserved-spaces/ Tue, 05 May 2015 17:31:05 +0000 /news/?p=66242 鶹ԭ students will enjoy expanded entertainment, food and tailgating options this football season.

The Student Government Association’s Knights on the Mall program will feature themed tailgates for each of the Knights’ six home games in the center of Memory Mall. Plans call for each game to feature live music, food, a cooling zone and giveaways. The themes for some of the early games will be announced this summer, and students will help select the themes for the other games.

鶹ԭ students and alumni also for the first time will be able to reserve spaces on Memory Mall for their tailgates. Instead of having to show up several hours early to claim a spot, those who make free online reservations will have a guaranteed space waiting for them.

“We encourage all fans to visit the SGA tailgating area and enjoy our expanded entertainment and food offerings before they cheer on our Knights to victory,” said SGA president Weston Bayes and president-elect Cait Zona.

Season Opener: Game Day Activities to Start at 1 p.m.

The student-focused changes will debut Thursday, Sept. 3, when the Knights host Florida International University in the season opener. Game day activities will begin at 1 p.m. – three hours earlier than the usual time for weekday games – to accommodate the 6 p.m. kickoff on CBS Sports Network.

Classes on the main campus, in Central Florida Research Park, at the Rosen College of Hospitality Management and on 鶹ԭ’s regional campuses will be conducted through noon. Offices at those locations also will close for normal operations at noon in order to allow adequate time for a smooth transition to game day activities.

The time change is only for the FIU game. 鶹ԭ’s usual weekday game schedule is to conclude classes and university operations at 3 p.m. and begin game day activities at 4 p.m.

‘Knights on the Mall:’ Students, Alumni to Reserve Tailgating Spaces

The Student Government Association, in partnership with the university and Alumni Association, proposed the Memory Mall changes to give students more opportunities for pregame entertainment and food and also to give students and alumni greater access to one of the campus’ prime tailgating areas.

The change will be a convenience to students and alumni who in the past have had to show up several hours early to secure a spot. Now students and alumni who reserve spaces in advance can arrive just as tailgating gets under way, or even after it starts, and they will have a spot waiting for them.

Bayes led the development of the new concept and he worked closely with Zona, who takes office next week.

The Student Government Association’s tailgating area will move from the Student Union side of Memory Mall to the center section, and for the first time will include spaces where student organizations and residence halls can tailgate.

All individual spaces on Memory Mall will now be reserved. Other tailgating spaces on campus will remain available to fans on a first-come, first-served basis.

More details about the game day changes, including the musical acts, game themes and the reservation system, will be provided this summer as they are determined.

Priyanka Patel said, “It was very nice to see all the first and second years coming together.” LEAD Scholars Program staff thanks student leader members who assisted in providing alcohol free-entertainment for the students.

Activities held during the tailgate included: free salsa lessons given by Karen Rodriguez, LEAD Students Association Historian, and Carlos Hernandez, LEAD alum; a spirit contest which was won by Rebecca Paramore, first-year LEAD Scholar; and an impromptu volleyball game. And what is a tailgate without food? Athletic Director Austin Teahan and his assistant Jammal Cooks grilled hamburgers and hotdogs for students to enjoy at the tailgate.

Joe Wolf, LSA director, commented, “This LEAD Scholars tailgate is proof in my eyes that tailgating is more than just drinking. It’s about friendship, school spirit and unity!”

The LEAD Scholars Program staff hopes that with the outstanding success of their first tailgate, more students will join them for…as attendee Chris Rollins commented the event was, “good food, good friends and tons of fun.”
