{"id":118828,"date":"2021-03-31T08:00:43","date_gmt":"2021-03-31T12:00:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/?p=118828"},"modified":"2021-03-26T13:40:33","modified_gmt":"2021-03-26T17:40:33","slug":"study-of-covids-impact-on-couples-to-be-shared-during-student-research-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/study-of-covids-impact-on-couples-to-be-shared-during-student-research-week\/","title":{"rendered":"Study of COVID\u2019s Impact on Couples to be Shared During Student Research Week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When COVID-19 hit and Central Florida went into lockdown, 麻豆原创 undergraduate student Victor Blocker began noticing mounting tension and stress among his friends, particularly couples.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s what sparked Blocker\u2019s research idea, which he turned into a project he will share during the Student Scholar Symposium, part of 麻豆原创\u2019s annual Student Research Week, March 29-April 2.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI noticed\u00a0the dynamics of couples within my inner circle,\u201d Blocker says. \u201cI wanted to test my hypothesis and see if there is, in fact, a direct impact of the pandemic on intimate relationships. My project aims to correlate the impact of the COVID pandemic on intimate relationships by analyzing relationships that began before and after the outbreak.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Blocker says that he hopes when his research is complete it will help couples identify stressors in their relationship that the pandemic exacerbates so they can develop strategies to overcome the obstacles.<\/p>\n<p>He plans to finish his bachelor\u2019s degree in psychology this year and then get his doctorate in clinical psychology with hopes of becoming an associate professor of psychology.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am passionate about psychology because it grants us insight into the mind, and armed with that knowledge we are able to better understand ourselves and others,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<p>To find out more about Blocker\u2019s work and that of other undergraduate and graduate students, check out the Student Scholar Symposium during this year\u2019s virtual <a href=\"https:\/\/researchweek.ucf.edu\/\">Student Research Week<\/a>.
