{"id":13849,"date":"2010-06-18T15:40:55","date_gmt":"2010-06-18T19:40:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/?p=13849"},"modified":"2018-07-02T11:15:18","modified_gmt":"2018-07-02T15:15:18","slug":"valencia-no-1-for-associate-degrees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/valencia-no-1-for-associate-degrees\/","title":{"rendered":"Valencia No.1 for Associate Degrees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Valencia Community College awards more associate degrees than any other two-year school in the nation, according to a report just published by Community College Week.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Valencia also leads all two-year schools in the number of associate degrees awarded to minorities, an 18 percent increase from the year before.<\/p>\n<p>The report was compiled using data from the U.S. Department of Education\u2019s National Center for Education Statistics and focused on degrees conferred during 2008-2009.<\/p>\n<p>In that academic time period, Valencia awarded 5,128 associate degrees, including 1,956 earned by minority students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cValencia\u2019s focus on improving student success, particularly in the critical first year of college, is paying off,\u201d said Valencia President Sanford C.
