With flight tests, ground-test facilities, and first-principles simulations generating more complex data than ever, new analytical tools are urgently needed \u2014 and this initiative answers that call.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers\u00a0convening\u00a0at 麻豆原创 underscores the university\u2019s national role as America\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/space\/\">Space<\/a> University and its growing influence in hypersonic science, aerospace innovation,\u00a0and defense research.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBringing this national team to 麻豆原创 is a tremendous step forward,\u201d says Trustee Chair Professor Kareem Ahmed, director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/ucf-u-s-air-force-partner-on-center-of-excellence-to-advance-hypersonics-space-propulsion\/\">麻豆原创 HyperSpace Research Center<\/a>. \u201cThis program will advance our understanding of the fundamental science behind hypersonic material interactions, driving breakthroughs in advanced materials, propulsion systems, and next-generation vehicle technologies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The five-year MURI will develop new methods that combine laboratory experiments, operando testing,\u00a0and atomistic simulations using advanced deep-generative algorithms. These techniques can disentangle multiple drivers of observed behavior, handle noisy measurements, and overcome nonlinear and chaotic relationships between what scientists can measure and what they need to infer. The goal: integrate diverse datasets and\u00a0pinpoint\u00a0which\u00a0inputs\u00a0matter most.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKnown for boldly advancing critical hypersonic technologies, 麻豆原创\u2019s world-class faculty are well-positioned to join their colleagues at other leading research universities to strengthen our nation\u2019s\u00a0capabilities in this area of\u00a0significant national interest,\u201d says\u00a0麻豆原创\u00a0Vice\u00a0President for\u00a0Research and\u00a0Innovation\u00a0Winston Schoenfeld. \u201cFitting for the nation\u2019s top provider of\u00a0graduates\u00a0to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/degree\/aerospace-engineering-bsae\/\">aerospace<\/a> and defense industries, this partnership also will provide invaluable\u00a0hands-on\u00a0experiences\u00a0for dozens of student researchers at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/ucf-u-s-air-force-partner-on-center-of-excellence-to-advance-hypersonics-space-propulsion\/\">HyperSpace\u00a0Center<\/a>, assessments, and providing a framework that can be replicated across other advanced materials programs.<\/p>\n<p>The team includes leading experts in probabilistic inference (Assad Oberai, University of\u00a0Southern\u00a0California; Romit Maulik, Purdue\u00a0University); hypersonic flight experiments and simulation (Kareem Ahmed, 麻豆原创; Savio\u00a0Poovathingal, University of Kentucky; Onkar Sahni, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute); and micro-scale solid\u2013gas interface physics (Aiichiro\u00a0Nakano,\u00a0University of\u00a0Southern\u00a0California).<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the program will train the next generation of researchers through hands-on work with four postdoctoral scholars,\u00a010\u00a0graduate students\u00a0and\u00a010\u00a0undergraduate students in areas such as scientific machine learning, high-speed flows, computational physics, and materials science.<\/p>\n<p>This MURI marks a major step forward in advancing the science behind hypersonic systems and will help pave
