{"id":56811,"date":"2014-01-23T09:56:14","date_gmt":"2014-01-23T14:56:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/?p=56811"},"modified":"2014-01-23T09:56:14","modified_gmt":"2014-01-23T14:56:14","slug":"theatre-ucf-orlando-shakespeare-theater-team-epic-nicholas-nickleby","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/theatre-ucf-orlando-shakespeare-theater-team-epic-nicholas-nickleby\/","title":{"rendered":"Theatre 麻豆原创, Orlando Shakespeare Theater Team Up for Epic &#8216;Nicholas Nickleby&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>&#8220;The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby, Parts I and II,&#8221; adapted from the novel by Charles Dickens,\u00a0is being presented by Theatre 麻豆原创 and the Orlando Shakespeare Theater\u00a0through March 9\u00a0at the John and Rita Lowndes Shakespeare Center in Orlando&#8217;s Loch Haven Park.<\/p>\n<p>The epic, two-part\u00a0production,\u00a0featuring a cast of 27 actors playing more than 150 characters, was written by David Edgar and is co-directed by Jim Helsinger and Christopher Niess.<\/p>\n<p>The story tells of\u00a0 Nicholas Nickleby, whose father died and left his family\u00a0penniless.\u00a0Nicholas embarks on\u00a0a series of adventurous encounters with humanity&#8217;s worst and best\u2014greedy fools, corrupt lechers, cheery innocents, and selfless benefactors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c&#8217;The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby&#8217; is a living example of how great the power of theater can be,\u201d Helsinger said. \u201cThis show is one of the most incredible theatrical events I have ever seen, and I\u2019m excited to bring that magic \u2014 that majesty\u2014 to Florida.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The play features John P. Keller in the title role. Starring in this season\u2019s &#8220;Dracula: The Journal of Jonathan Harker,&#8221; Keller first appeared at Orlando Shakes in the theater\u2019s 2012 repertory productions of &#8220;Othello&#8221; (Roderigo) and &#8220;Sense and Sensibility&#8221; (Edward).
