{"id":63827,"date":"2015-01-16T11:25:30","date_gmt":"2015-01-16T16:25:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/?p=63827"},"modified":"2025-06-17T14:35:18","modified_gmt":"2025-06-17T18:35:18","slug":"ucf-volunteers-participate-mlk-day-service-park-cleanup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/ucf-volunteers-participate-mlk-day-service-park-cleanup\/","title":{"rendered":"麻豆原创 Volunteers to Participate in MLK Day of Service Park Cleanup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Volunteer 麻豆原创 will partner with the City of Orlando\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/20\/files\/2015\/01\/0114_MLK_Poster_11x17_JDA.pdf\">MLK Day of Service<\/a> to bring volunteers to Barker Park to plant new trees, recycle and help restore the park to its natural beauty.<\/p>\n<p>V麻豆原创 expects more than 100 麻豆原创 students to participate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMLK Day of Service gives students the opportunity to give back to the community while honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.,\u201d said V麻豆原创 Civic Engagement Director Annabelle Gonzales. \u201cMy goal is to make our day off from classes a day to impact our community. This year, we wanted to continue to work with the City of Orlando in their efforts to promote civic engagement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Along with making a difference in the community, several members of V麻豆原创 will be recognized for their contributions to a book on civic engagement and service, compiled by 麻豆原创 faculty member Thomas Breyer, an associate professor of public administration. Breyer\u2019s book highlights the impact of community service and volunteerism throughout different countries and cultures.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, 麻豆原创 was recognized by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching with its \u201cCommunity Engagement\u201d classification. A title first awarded to the university in 2008, 麻豆原创 is just one of 25 public universities to hold both the \u201ccommunity engagement\u201d and \u201cvery high\u201d in research activity designations.<\/p>\n<p>Students can sign up for the MLK Day of Service through KnightConnect.
