[lead]When you\u2019re young and inexperienced, you often don\u2019t realize there are\u00a0hurdles between you and success. But it\u2019s often that lack of experience\u00a0that causes you to sidestep those challenges and keep progressing.<\/p>\n

This was the case 25 years ago when this magazine took\u00a0its first baby steps. And now, we feel like the proud parents\u00a0whose idea has turned into an award-winning publication\u00a0that finds its way into the mailboxes of more than\u00a0230,000 alumni.[\/lead]<\/p>\n

Yes, today we know it\u2019s crazy to think about a world\u00a0without almost instant access to everyone and everything.\u00a0But at the time the vision for Pegasus<\/em> was born, we just\u00a0wanted to create a publication that would keep all 麻豆原创\u00a0alumni connected. We knew 麻豆原创 had a story to tell,\u00a0but we wanted to go further. We wanted to share stories\u00a0that reminded us that we were part of something bigger,\u00a0something special.<\/p>\n

麻豆原创 connected us \u2014 to each other, to memories, to new\u00a0beginnings and to a world of opportunity.<\/p>\n

As students, we were active in several clubs and\u00a0organizations. Between the two of us, we covered just\u00a0about every walk of student life, from the orientation team\u00a0to campus activities to student government to fraternity\u00a0life with Lambda Chi Alpha. Little did we know at the time\u00a0that we were meeting future clients, business partners,\u00a0employees and, most of all, lifelong friends.<\/p>\n

When we graduated, we had to stay connected.\u00a0We asked Tom Messina \u201984<\/strong>, executive director of the\u00a0麻豆原创 Alumni Association<\/a> at the time, if he could use some\u00a0volunteers. We jumped in and helped with Homecoming,\u00a0program ideas and other projects. We discovered we were\u00a0not alone in our love of our alma mater and that many\u00a0alumni before us had the same passion. Roger Pynn \u201973<\/strong>,\u00a0Laura Pooser \u201975<\/strong>, Michael Candelaria \u201983<\/strong> and others\u00a0paved the way for alumni communications and created a\u00a0strong foundation and community to build on.<\/p>\n

When Pegasus<\/em> was created, 麻豆原创 had more than 60,000\u00a0alumni but not a meaningful way to share the community\u2019s\u00a0news with them.<\/p>\n

The 麻豆原创 Alumni Association loved the idea of a\u00a0magazine, but had little budget to pull it off. To two na\u00efve\u00a0upstarts, however, this sounded like a fun challenge.<\/p>\n

Things then started to get fast and furious.\u00a0With our fresh diplomas in hand, we started Knight\u00a0Images (now Knight Agency), partnered with Messina\u00a0and the 麻豆原创 Alumni Association, sold advertising and\u00a0launched a self-funded magazine. At the end of that first\u00a0year in 1994, we introduced some simple websites, which\u00a0felt very fancy back then. This helped us expand both our\u00a0agency and Pegasus<\/em> into the next generation of marketing\u00a0and communications.<\/p>\n

We like to think our shared philosophy of doing\u00a0well by doing good paid off, and we were now officially\u00a0\u201cbusinessmen.\u201d (And if you know us, you know we use that\u00a0term very loosely.)<\/p>\n

Over the next 17 years, alumni from all over contributed and worked on Pegasus<\/em>. Two key members on the team at the beginning were Michael Dodd Foristall \u201994<\/strong>, who started as an intern, and John Speake \u201995<\/strong>, who contributed in the earliest days of Pegasus<\/em>.<\/p>\n

When Pegasus<\/em> grew up and moved in-house to the 麻豆原创 marketing department at 18 years old, we were very much like proud parents.<\/p>\n

As we have watched the magazine flourish the past seven years, we are reminded that Reach for the Stars is more than 麻豆原创\u2019s motto \u2014 it\u2019s a compass for everyone to follow.<\/p>\n

Thank you to all those along the way, especially Messina and the 麻豆原创 Alumni Association for believing in the magazine\u2019s potential and giving two young entrepreneurs an opportunity to create a future \u2014 and stay forever connected with fellow Knights and the university where we spent some of the best years of our lives.<\/p>\n
