[\/photo]<\/p>\n<p>We know the constellation above\u00a0isn\u2019t accurate, but we didn\u2019t feel right turning our beloved winged horse upside down. To the right is how you\u2019d see the constellation in the night sky and below are 10 facts about Pegasus and its Great Square.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"gotham-black\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\">1.<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The son of Poseidon, Pegasus is the winged, white horse, who at birth sprang from Medusa\u2019s neck when she was beheaded by Perseus.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"gotham-black\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\">2.<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The word Pegasus is believed to be related to the Greek words\u00a0<em>pegai<\/em> or <em>pege<\/em>, meaning a spring, and the Greek <em>pegazo<\/em>, meaning spring forth.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"gotham-black\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\">3.<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Pegasus caused springs to flow as he struck the Earth and Mount Helicon with his hoof.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"gotham-black\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\">4.<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>According to Greek mythology, Pegasus carries the thunderbolts of Zeus, the god of the sky and thunder.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"gotham-black\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\">5.<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Inside our beloved Pegasus constellation are four stars that gallop into view around the September equinox to create the Great Square of Pegasus.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"gotham-black\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\">6.<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The Great Square of Pegasus serves as a guide to the evening sky during certain times of the year:<\/p>\n<p>Early July \u2013 dawn<br \/>\nEarly August \u2013 3 a.m.*<br \/>\nEarly September \u2013 1 a.m.*<br \/>\nEarly October \u2013 11 p.m.*<br \/>\nLate October \u2013 10 p.m.*<br \/>\nEarly November \u2013 8 p.m.<br \/>\nLate November \u2013 7 p.m.<br \/>\n<em>* = Daylight Saving Time<\/em><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"gotham-black\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\">7.<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Four stars of nearly equal brightness make up the Great Square of Pegasus: Scheat, Alpheratz, Markab and Algenib.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"gotham-black\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\">8.<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Steps to find the Great Square of Pegasus:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Use the Big Dipper to star-hop to Polaris, the North Star.<\/li>\n<li>Then, by drawing an imaginary line from any Big Dipper handle star through Polaris, and doubling the distance, you\u2019ll land on the W or M-shaped constellation Cassiopeia.<\/li>\n<li>A line from Polaris through the Caph star in the Cassiopeia constellation then takes you to the Great Square of Pegasus.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"gotham-black\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\">9.<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The Great Square is used much like the Big Dipper \u2014 to find other astronomical wonders, including the Andromeda Galaxy, which is the nearest major galaxy to our own Milky Way.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"gotham-black\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\">10.<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Also like the Big Dipper, the Great Square of Pegasus is an asterism, meaning it\u2019s a pattern of stars inside an existing
